Cambodia International Film Festival 20-23 October 2010

Maybe you still remember my previous post Cambodian to held its first international film festival. The festival will happen this month, make sure you download the pdf file at the end of the post to read more details about the films from different countries, especially there are few interesting Cambodia films by young generation and two films from each Cambodian filmmaker Rithy Panh and Mao Ayuth.

There are also LOST LOVES by Chhay Bora, a film set in Khmer Rouge regime directed by Chhay Bora, a new generation of Cambodian filmmaker that back from study in Bulgaria. The film was premiere at Meta House but I not yet watch it. It might be an interesting film to see because it is 100% made by Cambodian people.

The next interesting film is VANISHED : A Cambodian Thriller by Khmer Mekong Films. I have watched the test-screening and the final one with my wife. My wife didn’t quite like it, she expected to have more ghost story rather than thriller. But it might be a good film to you if you like thriller. I quite like the film for my own personal reason.

They are not yet confirm if Same Same But Different will join the screening, hopefully yes! I missed the two screening of the film in Cambodia but if it happen the third one, I will try to catch it this time.

Another documentary that give a deep analysis on genocide is on the way to show in public for its premiere in Cambodia. It was set to project on the 21 July 2010 at Meta house.

This time is Nuon Chea confession, the brother number two of Khmer Rouge regime. Did he tell the truth? I am very curious about what he said and confessed in the film.

Rithy Panh Called For Help S-21 Survivor Vann Nath

Dear Friends,

Please allow me to send you this urgent call for help.

Vann Nath whom you all know as a S-21 survivor, a painter and a restless and dedicated witness of the Khmer Rouge regime atrocities has been admitted on Tuesday to the emergency unit at Calmette Hospital, in Phnom Penh: This is the only institution which seems to be able to treat the bowel (duodenom) and stomach haemorrhage he is suffering from (though, I am not in position to give you further details).

Vann Nath is fighting for his life, and his wife and children stand by him. However, their financial resources cannot sustain such medical costs for long.

With Vann Nath’s agreement, I am therefore sending this appeal for funds in order to help his family to pay for medical bills and to support them through such painful struggle. Whatever the amount, any donation you may send will show your solidarity and support to him and his family.

I am very grateful for any contribution you may give.

Donations can be sent in a sealed envelope to Elen Gallien, at the Bophana Center (n°64 street 200). She is in charge of collecting all donations until Saturday included. Her telephone number is 092 132 718.

I truly thank you for your help.

Morover, if any of you’s blood type is A+ or O+ and is willing to donate their blood, please give me your contact details so that we can contact you whenever that might be necessary.

Best wishes and many thanks,

Rithy Panh
