When was the last time you read a good Cambodia book? It has been a long, long time, right?
I know the answer.
It’s time to write a good book on Cambodia.
That’s what I decided.
I’ve published two of my short stories on Amazon. Those are my writing 10 years ago. Nowadays, I didn’t write anything seriously. I made up excuses not to have time for writing.
I can make the time if I like to. I can ask my wife and kids to give me a full Saturday off for writing. I already did and it works just fine.
But there’s another reason that blocks the project.
Is it a right thing to do?
It needs a lot of courage to be a writer in this country. You can get shot without be able to say a word. But politic is not something I want to write. Cambodian politic is like a black hole that no one can understand what’s inside. There’s no reason for me either to dig into.
We should look beyond on what’s happening. We should be able to understand why we do what we do. Why other do what they do? Why our neighbors do what they do.
What does this country mean to you? Why are you falling in love with it so much? What is the special thing that drags you back in the country?
People ask for change. But before that, we should dream of it. We should know what we want Cambodia to become?
Don’t just follow the crowd and get caught by the police for no reason.
The title “Cambodia In My Dream” has stuck in my head a long time. I used it to publish the first book but I removed it back because I preferred to separate them into series of short read books and reserve the title for something more serious.
Some people like my writing but they can’t show it to the kids. They asked if I have something safe. I didn’t have. I write what I want to write about.
This time I don’t ask for the editor. I will keep the original version. I might just need a proofreader. But no more editor who will change completely my words and sentences.
This is my book. It has to be written in my styles.
That’s the only announcement I like to make today. I hope to get feedback from all of you. Do not forget to subscribe to the email newsletter. That’s the only way you can follow my writing.
I will see you soon. Take care.
