5 Tips to Get Your Child Interested in Reading

Kid Reading

When I was young, my father always bought me some books when he came back from work. I read a lot of books. Thank my father for his effort in getting me to read and write.

As parents, you should help your kids to become interested in reading. There are a lot of advantages in reading: learn vocabulary, learn how to think, being confident and independent, understanding of the world and much more.

You should not allow your kids to watch too much Tv or Smartphone. Those devices don’t provide many educated contents because their purpose is to entertain people and make money.

I know it is hard these days to get kids interested in reading but we need to try and find ways to change their habits.

Here are 5 tips you can try:

1. Make example

Before you can ask your kids to read, you need to show them you also like reading. Read in front of them. If you watch your phone and you ask them to read books, they can argue with you.

If you are not interested in fiction, self-help or business books would help you to improve your life or grow your business to the next level.

You can buy from Amazon or go to Monument Book.

2. Read for them

If your kids can’t read yet, you should read for them. Even your kids can read, you can read together with them to create a good experience and encourage your kids to read more.

The best time to read for them is before bedtime or weekend.

3. Give reward

One of the best ways to encourage your kids in reading is to give them a reward. If they finish one book, you will give them a certain score and when the score reaches a certain amount, you can buy something for them or bring them for dinner or going to a holiday somewhere they like.

This method will work not only for reading but for other activities as well.

4. Reduce screen time

It is good if you could avoid your kids to use a smartphone or watch too much TV. If they are busy watching TV or YouTube or playing online games, they will not have time to read.

It is good if you could replace the screen with books but if you cannot, you can try to reduce the screen time to a maximum of 1 hour per day or so. Try to give them a schedule and remind them when the time limited reach. If you’re using iPhone or iPad, you can set screen time limit.

5. Try different books

Kids might be interested in books differently from one to another. Allow them to choose books they like to read. Bring them to book store from time to time.

Don’t be afraid to spend some money on buying books for your kids. It’s good for their future and they can develop knowledge and thinking through books.

It is not a waste but a very good investment for your kids.

That’s the 5 tips I like to share. I hope it can give you some ideas. Star doing something today, develop the reading habit for your kids since they are young.
