Koh Rong, for most of the people, they only hear it for the first time from the “Survivor” Tv series or see people posting photos of the island on Instagram or Facebook.
That’s it. The island is far and not safe for them to visit.
There are only some people who dare to take the boat and explore the island.
I had a chance to go and stayed one night on the island.
Let me tell you this. It’s not far. It’s safe and secure to go and escape from our over-exaggerated material lifestyle for a few days.
You will enjoy the clean and natural beach. You will swim in the sea that has a very clear and crystal view. You will be able to explore the world under the sea with your own eyes.
Going to Koh Rong would be an exceptional experience.
Where is Koh Rong, geographically?
Koh Rong is located about 15 Km from Preah Sihanouk Province (Sihanoukville). If we take the speed boat, it takes less than 1 hour to reach the island.
The island is big. The hotels and guest houses are built around the island. It depends on which one you choose.
I stayed at Sok San Beach Resort.
It is a big resort. The staff who work there are very friendly and well-organized. The resort has 75 rooms. You can choose the sea or garden view or you can book an entire house that has two rooms to accommodate the whole family.
They have a very nice beach, good restaurant, and a nice bar. The breakfast is good and you can have a very nice dining experience on the sand in front of the resort.
The resort offers many activities that you don’t want to miss such as diving, sailing, fishing and much more.
How to go there?
There are big and secure boats to transfer you from the Sihanoukville port to the Koh Rong island.
If you stay at Sok San Beach Resort, you will get 50% discount for the boat ticket which is usually 20$ for adult and 10$ for kid above 3 years old.
For other hotels, they might have their own boats. You just need to verify and make sure they have safety jackets and everything.
Sok San boat is big and we can feel secure even we have young kids. They always operate at least with 2 boats at the same time in case any emergency needed.
The internet works on 3G. You don’t go there and expect a fast internet connection. There’s no KTV as in Sihanoukville. Not many bars or restaurants. You have limited choices but you will have time to relax and enjoy the beach with a few drinks.
