Ocean Flame - a new wave of Hong Kong cinema

what we got from Hong Kong is mostly a Gangster movie, or supernatural or comedy but not many about something real to feel.

i think Ocean Flame is like the movie My Sassy Girl few years ago that have gave something new and completely different for Korean Cinema.

i hope Ocean Flame will make a new wave for Hong Kong cinema. it seems to have a good reception at Cannes and also for the European audiences. it’s now in the theater in Hong Kong since Sep 11 2008. i am waiting for find it here soon in Cambodia.

Ocean Flame Film Synopsis

Wang Yao was a shameless hoodlum and a blackmailer until one day he met a waitress named Lichuan. He thought Lichuan was like any other girls that could be controlled by him, but her stubbornness was way beyond his imagination.

As time goes by, they both lost their soul in the process. Wang Yao lost his freedom, while Lichuan lost her life.

Eight years later, Wang Yao stepped out from jail. He carried a gun and went to look for Lichuan’s mother, wishing to fulfill his own will…

The film was produced by Simon Yam Tat-Wah, i think everybody would recognize his face, most of the time, he played  the bad guy. i really appreciate his idea to produce such a movie, to make us feel something fresh about Hong Kong cinema industry. i hope my Cambodia industry will, one day, have something new to show. it’s my dream deep inside my soul these day. well, let’s wait to see the movie.
