In Cambodia the rights of the child can be overlooked or even violated.

Report From Cambodia’s Garment Factories

by Hanuman on March 9, 2010

Cambodia offers a national monthly minimum wage for garment workers of $50. This is still higher than in some countries, but Cambodia’s economic boom means that prices and wages in almost all other sectors have risen rapidly in recent years.

In 2009, the Cambodian Labour Union Federation and the National Institute of Statistics determined that the minimum wage to support the conditions factory workers lived under was $93 per month. Yet, recent talks to grant laborers a living wage stalled immediately.

There’s nothing in this world that we cannot face to it. Take a deep breath and think. Sometime we need to go far and come back to understand thing. But drug will never be a solution. When you wake up, the problem is still here, waiting for you to resolve.

Over 45,000 Garment Jobs Lost in Cambodia

by Hanuman on February 18, 2010

Factory closures far outstripped openings last year, Ministry of Labour reports

At least 106 garment and shoe factories were closed last year, mostly because of a slump in Cambodia’s key export industry, forcing more than 45,000 workers out of employment, Ministry of Labour figures showed late Monday.

Oum Mean, secretary of state at the ministry, said that 66 additional factories had suspended operations over the same period, temporarily affecting an additional 38,124 workers.

“At the same time, we also saw 48 new established factories that employed 16,886 workers,” he said, adding that the government trained 40,000 unemployed garment workers in agriculture up to October.

Sex worker arrests on the rise

by khmerbird on January 25, 2010

The Phnom Penh Post

THE municipal Social Affairs Department has reported a slight increase in the number of sex workers who were rounded up and detained in Phnom Penh in 2009.

Nut Nang, the department’s deputy director of social health, said that 469 sex workers were detained in Phnom Penh in 2009, up from 415 in 2008.

Although the department blamed the economic crisis for the rise in detentions, NGO officials who work with sex workers said the government had failed in providing alternative income sources for the women it had rounded up.

“The number of sex workers is increasing because of the global economic crisis,” Nut Nang said.

“We saw that many factories were closed and factory workers lost their jobs, and most of them didn’t go back to their hometown but instead turned to work in night clubs, karaoke parlours and other public places in order to earn money for their families.”

have you ever hated yourself

by khmerbird on July 9, 2009

denirothis is something i want to ask quite some time ago,

have you ever hated yourself?

i think we might all experienced with that kind of situation, it might caused from different reason, but the feeling and emotion is all the same: we feel sorrow, we feel we should not do that stupid thing, we feel we should do it better.

In School

when we got a bad result from the exam, we all feel bad. when we did a wrong calculation, we blame ourselves for the mistake. we feel hating ourselves for not being so perfect. it will take at least two or 3 days to make our feeling feel better and concentrate to the next exam.

At Work Place

when we finished school, we are getting older and more be careful. but still, mistake always follow us everywhere. we might forget to do some routine task and sometime it might cause to serious trouble. some work place can allow you to do few mistake but not to repeat again. some work place, a mistake can get you fired.

Daily Life

we hate ourselves when we make someone we love unhappy. we wish we could do it better but we always end up by making him or her upset and disappointed.

some mistakes might cause from the misunderstanding, some might come from the jalousie and some might come from others various reasons.

Do it better

all mistakes make us hating ourselves, make you headache and feeling down. whatever the reasons that cause the mistake, first of all we have to accept it and finding the original of the cause, correct it and do it better.

there’s always another good effect in any situation even from mistake. it’s from mistake that we know how to do the right things.

this is something i want to share, what about you, when it was the last time you hate yourself?
