Sometime you have something to confess. Sometime you need some advice. Sometime you want to make some new friends. Or sometime you just want to be “On AIR” If you don’t know what to do, where to go, turn on your radio and listen to Love FM 97.5, everyday from 19:00 till 21:00. They call it “Love and Life Chat”.

On the way back home, in my car, I am just a listener. I listened to what people asked to the DJ about how to resolve their heart problem. It has been a while that I follow the program and I started to like it, and later on I am a fan of the program. I remember one day, there was a girl who would leave the country to study 2 years at over sea. She got a boyfriend here in Phnom Penh city. And she asked to the DJ what she should do? Should they break up or continue their relationship in distance?

It was a very hard question I guess, especially there was no improvising. It was lived. I heard the DJ replied (they are not exactly word by word, but the meaning, yes):

You can keep the relationship, but be ready if something changes. Two years is long enough that one of you could meet someone else. You should give each other a chance, not to live in a promise that might hurt you one day.

Wow she’s cool. The DJ is cool and who is she? She called herself Buffy. And who is Buffy? We will know her in few minutes

Khmerbird: So Buffy thanks for giving us a chance to know you more a bit outside of your sweet and warm program. We all love your “Love and Life Chat”. Can you tell us a bit where you came from? You are not Cambodian I guess? And how you arrived in Cambodia?

Buffy: I am mixed German-Khmer. My dad is German my mother is Khmer. I came to Cambodia when i was 4 with my mother and younger sister in 1991 until now.

Khmerbird: Where did you learn it from, those stuffs called love? Did it already exist in you since you were born? Or you may have secretly a master of love?

Buffy: Well if you see me you never think that how could she get those answers to the listeners? Seriously I used to have couple boyfriends, so through what I’ve been through with those guys. Further more, I love looking at others problems not only about love; it’s everything in Cambodia’s society. And I’m trying to be myself to be in their shoes and try to think what I can do with the problems if I were them

Khmerbird: Some day, you change the subject, not to talk about love at all, anything but not about love. Is love suck sometime? LOL, I guess it’s boring to talk about love, isn’t it?

Buffy: mmm, yeah I think so. it is good if u have a good love relationship.
not only love is a thing going on with your life, family friends and everything that u r living with are all what u should think and improve them to be better for u life n mind.

Khmerbird: Do you like Cambodia? What do you think about the relationship in this city? Do Cambodian people can understand and express their need? Or do you think this country is still under the old tradition?

Buffy: For sure yeah, I love Cambodia so so much. Relationship between woman and man now is better than the last few decades. They can choose to be with someone they love. I think most of Cambodians show what they want and what they need perfectly.
Well for the old tradition, I think that, parents need their kids to have good future, so that is why they still force their kids to be with someone they don’t love too.

Khmerbird: Refer to the phone call you have received since many years, what is the commune problem in the relationship? Boy breaks girl’s heart? Girl breaks boy’s heart? 50%/50% or it’s the family problem or social level?

Buffy: It depends on how strong you are after your heart is broken when you broke up with someone. Don’t be so upset, remember that you still have a lot of choices to choose for your life, you still have school, work, friends, family, and your own life.
For family problems or social level, these depend on what types of family you are in.
Well love always has problem in thousands of way not only social level or family problem. It could be because of the partners, because of the environment or peoples’ behavior… etc.

Khmerbird: I think no one can replace you, or do as good as you. Do you like your program? What inspire you to do such a beautiful job?

Buffy: I think i just do what i can for people about lil chit chat u know. whatever i talk on radio for life n love chat are all what i saw n learned from myself and other people too. The program i like is Rock School Show, cos i’m dead and alive with rock music for always. Secondly Life N Love Chat, cos it helps me to know more bout others’ English and their life n love matter.

Khmerbird: Last question, I hope you will answer me. If I want to have a girlfriend, what would you like to recommend me? LOL

Buffy: I heard this for many times so i still need to answer the same lines.

• Be open
• Accept everybody around you
• Try to be positive to all the girls and think that they have something special

Buffy: I’m not a love expert te na. Like I told you I do what I can do. Sometimes when I talk to the listeners and the callers I don’t even remember what did I say (embarrassing nas).
