Health care system in Cambodia is in a poor condition. The doctor pay less attention to the patients, and they only serve their need but not the human’s life.
Money is an important factor by most of the people here in Cambodia.
Talking about health care system in Cambodia, most of the doctors need money more than cures the disease of the patients.
I used to enter one clinic because I got a problem with my ears. I first noticed that they act if they really pay good care to me but in contrast, they don’t.
The consultation is costly. If they are poor, they cannot afford with this amount of money.
The doctor gave me the prescription to buy medicine. I feel that after taking those medicines for a while, nothing change at all.
And what surprised me the most, when I went to pharmacy to buy the medicines, the pharmacist asked me that: why the doctor gave me this such of prescription?
I asked them back, what’s wrong with this medicine?
They said that the medicine is not good for the young people like me because that kind of medicine is use only with the elderly or people are about to die. It contains chemical that could make me addict to it.
The pharmacist also proofed that because the doctor has an agreement with the medicine suppliers, they have to do like this.
I feel like the doctor is not the one who helps people but they are the one who kills people silently.
Since then, I don’t like and I don’t believe health care in Cambodia no matter what.
In addition, there is also inequality.
If you are poor, you must queue while the rich people able to enter and have consultation first. Hospitals and clinics are the place where providing service to the patients.
Normally, we know that “First Comes, First Serves” but in reality, it is not like what has happened. According to what I used to see recently, in some clinics they have to catch the number before they go to see the doctor.
But when rich people drive luxurious car, has guards go with them and has brand stuffs, the doctor never hesitate to ask them to enter first.
I feel like the doctor doesn’t give the value to the poor people. They also have money to see the doctor but the doctors just take them as a granted.
Plus, the poor patients has no choice, they just sit and remain silent because the rich people has power.
Furthermore, the equipment are old and not up to date.
I don’t mean to look down on equipment use by the doctor in Cambodia, but I don’t trust them even a bit.
Cambodia is a developing country, so we are a bit far from up to date. Most of the equipment are simply old and we cannot trust the result 100%.
Last two years ago, my aunt got accident and she broke her left leg. She was sent to one of a local health care nearby.
Without waiting, she had a leg surgery by put iron inside to make the bone connect together again. Not long after the surgery, the wound still made her hurt and swelled.
We believed that there might be a problem with the surgery.
Another problem is that the surgery doctor is not a doctor works at that clinic but he worked as a part-time job. When the clinic needs the doctor for surgery, they need to ring him.
In my opinion, I don’t think it is a good idea to enter this kind of clinic because the patients cannot wait.
My aunt case, I can say it is not a big deal. But if we compare to the other patients that is about to lose their breath because if the doctor comes late, they might be lost their lives.
The problem is still remained. My aunt was sent to another one of the high standard hospital in our country. When they x-ray her leg, they said she needed to have another surgery because her first surgery doctor was not clean enough to make her recover.
I think that because of the doctor was in rushed and old equipment that’s why it causes her wound was still in trouble.
Luckily, the second surgery was successful.
As I describe above it doesn’t mean I look down on our health care system in Cambodia. But it is what I have experiences with.
To criticize is to make it better but not to look down in bad way.
In my opinion, because our country is in progressing for better health care condition, they need to look at our neighbor countries. Their health care system is trustful.
In fact, most of Cambodians normally go to other countries such as Vietnam, Thailand and Singapore than going to a local clinic or hospital.
All Cambodian need is trustful, especially the professional doctors.
Finally, I hope the health care system in Cambodia will be improved more and provide the good care locally.
