This is the second post from the series: How To Spend Your Holiday in Cambodia That Cuts Your Travel Budget in Haft.
If you missed, here is the first post: Good Places To Eat Cambodian Street Food that Save You a Lot Of Money.
My intention for this post is to provide information about how to find cheap and comfortable flights to Cambodia.
Be aware that I am a Cambodian and I don’t fly often. All the information in this post is based on my research.
You are welcome to share your own experiences about flying to Cambodia.
We would love to hear from you and hopefully everybody can contribute to this post, to make it useful for people who looks for cheap flights to Cambodia from various countries around the world.
I will start by introducing national carrier first, then I will continue by counting the direct flights to Cambodia, and I will end up by the important session of booking sites that will allow you to compare the airfare from various carriers.
National Carrier: Cambodia Angkor Air
To be frank it’s not a real national carrier.
Do not be surprise if you meet Vietnamese hostesses on the plan.
Cambodia Angkor Air is totally managed by Vietnam Airlines with 49% shareholder and the rest of the shareholder belongs to Cambodian government.
They recruited some Cambodian staff to join the company. We started to see more and more Cambodian hostesses but I believed the top managements are still under Vietnam Airlines.
They have 3 daily flights between Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, 3 flights per week between Siem Reap and Preah Sihanouk, 1 daily flight between Phnom Penh and Ho Chi Minh City and 3 daily flights between Siem Reap and Ho Chi Minh City.
Cambodia Angkor Air has two aircraft: Airbus 321 for international flights and ATR 72 for domestic flights.
Direct Flights to Cambodia
Cambodia has 3 airports:
- Phnom Penh International Airport
- Siem Reap International Airport
- Preah Sihanouk International Airport
We have domestic direct flights between Phnom Penh – Siem Reap (3 flights per day) and Siem Reap – Preah Sihanouk (3 flights per week).
You can find below the direct flights to Phnom Penh and Siem Reap. When I mention direct flights, they are purely direct flights. There’s no stop in the middle.
I didn’t mention an exceptional direct flight by Air France. I should include it to the map but since it has a middle stop (sometime they stop at Ho Chi Minh city, sometime at Bangkok) before they arrive in Phnom Penh, I exclude it out.
But I would recommend to check out Air France, if you are from France. You don’t have to change the aircraft or do the transit. They just stop to drop off some passengers at Ho Chi Minh or Bangkok, then the same aircraft will fly you to Phnom Penh.
Should I include it to the list?
Here are the direct flights to Phnom Penh and Siem Reap International airports:
You might probably already heard of them. Booking tickets in advance would give you a lot of good price.
I don’t know much about how people book their air tickets in other countries. I do hope you could share your practices in here.
In Cambodia, most of us book through the travel agents. I don’t know why, for some reason if we go to book directly with the airline, we will pay more expensive.
When I first had idea for the post, I asked on my Google+ and I got some good answers.
To find a good deal of booking flights, we recommend these two booking sites:
I tried during the research for the direct flights to Cambodia, KAYAK provides very quick result and best deal. If you already experiences with these two booking sites or want to recommend any good booking site, I would love to hear from you.
Well, to get a cheap air ticket, you might need to have many stops. You need to make balance between flying time and cost.
The good thing from these two booking sites is that you can customize your need, for example you can select how many stops you want.
Unfortunately as I already mentioned earlier, we don’t have much direct flights. You have to search in booking sites what is the best option for you.
I wish all good luck for that!
Before I end up this post, I just want to highlight Bangkok Airways seems to have a high recommendation 88% on TripAdvisor.
If you already flied to Cambodia, I hope you could share your experiences and if you have any favorite airlines, we would love to hear from you.
Let’s make everyone fly to Cambodia.
