Beggars in Cambodia, would you like to help or hurt them?

Cambodia is a developing country, but there are many beggars along the streets.

Why those people beg for money?

When you see those people, what are you going to do? Give them money or do not care about them?

Cambodia raise up from the Zero point in 1979. We just start to develop the country after the Khmer Rouge Regime collapsed.

During such of difficult time, we faced many difficult things such as poverty, uneducated people, economic crisis, and so on.

Actually, the country is developing, but the people still poor. Therefore, some people decide to become the beggars along the street, tourist sites and other places where they can beg for money.

If the beggars beg money from you, do you suppose to give them? Do you think that is the right way to help them with money?

Did you know that giving money to begging children can be harmful? There are better way to help. Find out how.

Of course, most of the people especially foreigners will give the money to them. They prefer to give them money because they think that those people will get suffer if they don’t have money to buy food.

Some said that, giving the money can make them happy and not to be hopeless. If they beg for money and no one give them they will think that there have no one care about their live. So they want to die or do something that we cannot imagine.

But, do you have enough money to give them all the time? Is it helping them?

When we see in the long term, giving the money cannot be help, but will make them suffer in the future.

Why they will suffer?

Money is necessary for them in the short period; when the money gone they will beg for money again. They won’t do anything else but to remain as the beggars for the rest of their life.

Why we cannot give them other choice to choose beside of choosing money?

If we give them something else such as introduce them go to school or give them an opportunity to learn a skill, it is more helpful for the future.

Finally, we should help the beggar in Cambodia by providing a skills which easy for them to find a job in the future; it’s good more than giving the money which support them only a short time.

How about you?

I agree with the idea we shouldn’t give them money all the time. When you give them today, they will come back later and ask for more. I think it sounds like there is no end points for such a help. I believe the only solution is when the whole country comes to develop, so they are well educated and employed.  We should contribute our money to something more helpful and really can make a change such as to society. Don’t try to be selfish! Whenever our country survives, we altogether live!
