2. Cyrano de Bergerac – France – 1990
it is one of the classic French love story since 1897, the movie remade in 1990 and played by Gérard Depardieu is a must-seen movie that you cannot miss.
Cyrano is a poem and he is madly in love with his beautiful cousin Roxane even he already know she won’t love him back. He believe she won’t love an ugly man with a long big nose like him. there’s no way in this world that he could win her heart.
later on, Roxane has fall in love with Christian, a hansom soldier in the same unit of which Cyrano is the captain. Roxane called Cyrano to tell about her feeling and ask him to take care of Christian.
Christian doesn’t know who to speak a word of love. Cyrano decided to help Christian to write love letters to Roxane. all along the way, even during the war, Cyrano always writes letter back to Roxane in the name of Christian. He went back to town the send letter at night and sometime they saw him and shot him.
it’s the most beautiful love story i have watch in my life. Christian soon died in the battle and Cyrano always keep his love for Roxane in his heart and he never told no one.
only after his death that Roxane knows the person who she love all along the way is Cyrano and not Christian.
they are 3 close friends: 2 males and 1 female and love can play only two. they all care about each other. it’s hard to choose between friend and love. someone has to leave …
the way of telling the story began by daughter the 2nd generation and flashback to the first generation of her mother. the story was made by the same director of My Sassy Girl, a very successes Korean movies in the International market and it changed completely a new look into Korean Cinema.
The Classic is more romantic and got a lot of beautiful shooting, especially in the rain. the way of telling the story is warming intelligent and bring us back to the old school memories.
true love need the sacrifice, true love need tears to prove, someone who doesn’t have tears, got no right to love. The Classic covers all those elements in love. it captured from the beginning when we got a crush on someone and how it grow into love letters.
you will find the most beautiful poem that you might probably wrote in on your Valentine Card to someone you love, this movie tells all about love and how we sacrifice for the one we love. it’s a happy ending story that you could watch with someone you love.
Every relationship got an expired date. it’s a questions that impose to all the couples. they need to find a solution to rebuild back the good time and keep the good feeling to each other.

Wit goes down to buy some cigarettes where she make friend with a young girl named Ploy. She waited for her mother to arrive from Stockholm. She asked Wit if she could make a shower in his room. Wit agree to her proposition and bring her to his room.
Dang surprise when his husband bring a young girl to the room but she got no reason to stop her either. a lot of imagination come to Dang mind and the jealousy begins.
i never though we could find such a movie from Thailand. the movie was made by director Pen-Ek Ratanaruang, supported by fortissimofilms. for me the movie is beautiful and trying to tells how people deal with the long term relationship.
Wit and Dang really want to keep their relationship but how? they asked each other the same question … the final act, the couple is faced with the choice of going separate ways or turns around and embraces each other for a new beginning.
if you got something in mind and can’t find the way to tell your partner, this movie would be the best to rise the issue and start to tell each other how is our feeling and is there’s any way to save it back…
5. House of Flying Daggers – Hong Kong – 2004
to me House of Flying Daggers is not just a classic martial art movie but it’s a romantic and tragedy love story. watching the movie make me think of the contradiction that still happen in Asian society between obligation and love, between family, friend and the secret lover.
it would not necessary to take many years to find a true love. true love finds us without any notice, even in a short period. Jin, the police captain, suppose to pretend to fall in love with Mei and break out the prison to release her. She’s a blind dancer, suspected to be the daughter of the rebel leader of the group House of Flying Daggers.
they both escape together, two of them have secrets to each other and they can’t tell. but few days later they both falling in love with each other. they both fall deeply in the ocean of love. love move over their mind and obligation. love become so strong in a way they never imagine.
they both do everything to live together.
Zhang Yimou tells a story of love in a particularly circumstance, the fighting scenes are beautiful and high attitude … the words are so sweet to remember, the sacrifice of each characters give a strong meaning of the power of love.
the ending fighting scenes are exceptional, where you will not be able to forget and maybe some teardrop would drop down on your face when the cast is showing …
it’s a good movie to see if you want to know how far love can go.
6. The painted Veil – US – 2006
Kitty, due to the pressure from her family, she decided to marry a man she doesn’t love. after married, she follow her husband, Dr. Walter, to China. They move to Shanghai and later Kitty has an affair with a married man.
Walter finds out, he asked Kitty to chose weather divorce or follow him to a small village in China where she probably finds nothing but Cholera, the deadly disease.
it’s hard to know when love comes or go, The painted Veil, was trying to tell exactly the same difficulty of time. Walter wanted to revenge to his unfaithful wife, he found out later that he still love her. Kitty in a town where she found nobody interesting, starting to realize she also loves Walter.
the movie will ask you to take a step away, to see how love can take a long delay hiding in our heart. When we realize its existence, it almost too late.
the movie will bring you a long with the beautiful landscape of China, a lot of scenes were shot in Guilin, Guangxi and Hunan provinces. at the same time as the characters doing their lonely and beautiful trip, you will have sometime to think and find the way back to love.

Yes, the movie by Sally Potter, a UK woman filmmaker, goes far away above these questions but still, her characters suffer a lot from their political and national differences.
Yes is a story of an unhappy American woman, live in London, married to a political man and got a daughter. One day she meet a handsome Lebanese exile who was a respected surgeon in his homeland but now supports himself in London as a cook. He flirts with her, and She is pleased with his advances; weeks later, she contacts him, and an affair begins.
when we feel good with someone, what else we should know and dig for? the past? the religion? the nationality? politic?
the more we ask questions the more we found the distance, they both break up. the Lebanese is fired and go back to his homeland.
she feel losing someone she love. she bought an air ticket and send by mail to him. and they finally find a way back to each other after a long separation, they both found each other back somewhere in Havana in Cuba.
8. Un Homme et Une femme – France – 1966
the title in English is A Man and a Woman, a film by Claude Lelouch, a Famous French filmmaker. it’s all shot in black and white, with a very low budget, as the result the film comes out with very good received and it become one of the major love story film from France.
it’s a story of a man and a woman, as its title. the man, Jean-Louis, is a widower. He is a race car driver and his wife committed suicide after Jean-Louis was in a near fatal crash during the 24 hours of Le Mans.
the woman, Anne, was a film script supervisor, a widow due to her husband, a stuntman died in an on-set accident.
They meet at their respective children’s school in Deauville. They share a ride home to Paris one night after Anne misses the last train, and their mutual attraction is immediate.
The story follows their budding relationship over the course of several trips back to Deauville, and as they fall in love despite Anne’s feelings of guilt and loss over her deceased husband.
After a night together in Deauville, Anne finds herself unable to be unfaithful to the memory of her husband, and decides to leave Jean-Louis.
While she is traveling back to Paris by train, Jean-Louis races to meet her at the station, and when she gets off the train she is surprised to see him there. Happy that her lover had come back for her, they embrace as the film ends, the final outcome of the relationship left open to interpretation.
9. Lost Paradise – Japan – 1997
the end is a bit strange and will not recommended for all viewer. but as long as you believe how far a movie can go, then it’s chance for you to see this beautiful work from Japan. it’s an erotic story and would not suitable for the minors.

the man is a book editor and we seem lost sexual contact with his wife. he found another young woman that he could shared his loneliness.
the husband of the young woman finds out the affairs and send a warning letter to the man. but they both love each other too much and there’s no point where they can’t stop.
there’s a lot of beautiful naked scene from this movie, it’s a chance for you to try the most beautiful erotic Japanese movie. it’s good to spend any night watching this with the one you love 
but i warned you due to a lot of sex scenes.
Koji Yakusho talked about the sex scene: When the role offer came, I hesitated at first, thinking about the hero’s age as he was 10 years older than I was. But I made up my mind to play the role, as I had long wanted to have an opportunity to work with the director, Yoshimitsu Morita.
As expected, bed scenes were really tough to shoot. Eroticism in the novel needed expressing properly. I feel that each of such scenes conveys the director’s enthusiasm and individuality.
It was worth acting the role of Kuki. I feel that this is rather a new “Lost Paradise”, based on the original novel.
10. Bungee Jumping of Their Own – Korea – 2001
Two college freshmen fall in love soon after sharing an umbrella in the rain, with a vow to never leave one another.
The girl, however, disappears without a word, and the boy, 17 years later, gets married and becomes a teacher.

With an incredibly surprising and controversial plot twist, “Bungee Jumping” is no ordinary romantic drama that excels and overwhelms you in great measures.
there are a lot of romantic scenes which make me remember the movie very well, especially the actress Lee Eun-Joo. Her performance was very lovable and unforgettable.
but be warned that you might get sock at the end of the story, because it’s not a normal and regular ending that you usually find in any other romantic stories.
