Carpenters – Close To You

Carpenters – Close To You

Sometime it is good to listen to old songs such as this song “Close To You”.

It’s a good song by the Carpenters released in 1970.

Maybe some of you never heard of it before. I actually planned to introduce some of my favorite songs since I decided to have this new editorial schedule.

But almost a month now, this is the first song I want to share.

If you remember the Hong Kong movie “So Close”, you might recognize and remember the original soundtrack of the movie. The soundtrack was performed by Corrinne May, a Singaporean singer.

What I like about the song is that it is very simple melody but sweet and romantic. And I want to tell all Cambodian songwriter as well that there are many ways to say “I love you” without actually saying it.

We need to spend time, understand the feeling and how we can express it with what is happening around us. I am truly sad to see we still copy songs from other countries.

These modern songs don’t have a deep meaning. People just listen and forget.

“Close To You” is a pop classic love song and I dream to see Cambodian music industry produce similar interesting songs.

For those who interests, here is the lyric of the song (Source):

Why do birds suddenly appear, ev’ry time you are near?
Just like me, they long to be close to you.
Why do stars fall down from the sky, ev’ry time you walk by?
Just like me, they long to be close to you.

On the day that you were born the angels got together.
And decided to create a dream come true.
So, they sprinkled moon dust in your hair of gold,
And star-light in your eyes of blue.
That is why all the girls in town follow you all around.
Just like me, they long to be close to you…

On the day that you were born the angels got together.
And decided to create a dream come true.
So, they sprinkled moon dust in your hair of gold,
And star-light in your eyes of blue.
That is why all the girls in town follow you all around.
Just like me, they long to be close to you…
Just like me, they long to be close to you…

Cool! My wife and I like this song. We listened to this song before getting married and now we have a beautiful daughter and still we listen and sing this song together. Sometimes, we tease each other by singing “Why do birds suddenly died out every time you’re not near (or you are near)?”

My beloved Scarlet is 1 year and a half now. And I also learn to play this song on my Ukulele but still not yet able to play it :) and Scarlet is enjoying the Uke very much, it’s like a small version of the Guitar. By the way, could you please post the trend of Ukulele in Cambodia (if and only if you can)? I want to know how many people in Cambodia are enjoying this small instrument like me.

          It’s nice.

My son, Vitou also has one. His cousin bought for him but he just can made the sound, he can’t play any melody yet.

I believe the kids here also play Ukulele. I will keep in mind to post it someday. It’s nice to see what other react.

          Thank for the suggestion.
