meet with student @ RUFA

by khmerbird on December 9, 2006

last Wednesday i have visited Royal University of Fine Arts. i feel very sad when i saw the university. due to the new location is quite far from the city some students have decided to stop study, coz they have difficulties in transportation.

i meet some student of Khmer Classical music,

i have talked to them and Vanna one of the student has spent a lot of time reply to my questions, i wanted to see the voice dean of khmer classical music but he was in a meeting and i couldn’t manage to meet him yet. anyway Vanna gave me what i wanted to know for the story,

i hope they would be happy if they know someone is writting about them!

somehow i still feel sad. sad for them, sad for their future, sad for the future of Khmer artists.

they don’t have a choice i guess. It’s their parents who decided to put them in classical dance or music coz they were still young. it doesn’t happen if one day you decide to go and learn Khmer classical dance. it has to be decided since you were young. it’s their family their parents their grand parents that more or less get involved with the decision.

that’s why i called it – a family

are they proud to sacrify their life for conservation of Khmer Culture? Do they have the regrets of being an artist?

i will come back and talk to them again.

Really sad reading this post. Our government takes no notice of these students, but $. They’ve exchanged the old university’s compound to rich people and leave poor students/teachers there behind.
