“Phnom Penh: At present, there are nearly 500 entertainment places in Phnom Penh, such as beer gardens, karaoke parlors, night clubs, discotheques, restaurants or other places where alcohol and some meals are served, accompanied with music, and female beer seller [often called "Beer Girls"].
Solyanna Poeung has arrived today at Phnom Penh International Airport. I heard she also plan to have an interview with Apsara TV and later on she will visit Siem Reap Angkor.
I heard from her last interview last time she came to Cambodia, a lot of men couldn’t stop looking at her. There’s no doubt on this because she is beautiful.
I guess this time since she become Miss Cambodia in France, what will happen to her while she walk down the street. We will find out soon !
She arrived in Phnom Penh with accompany of her parents.
This year would be also an exciting day. My love is growing day by day, a lot of things will come to our life and we will always standstill to face any problem.
I heard on the radio and everybody mentioned the same thing: they worry about teenagers that would lost her virginity on the valentine day.
For my own personal feeling it’s good to fall in love and to make a sacrifice to the one you love.
THE municipal Social Affairs Department has reported a slight increase in the number of sex workers who were rounded up and detained in Phnom Penh in 2009.
Nut Nang, the department’s deputy director of social health, said that 469 sex workers were detained in Phnom Penh in 2009, up from 415 in 2008.
Although the department blamed the economic crisis for the rise in detentions, NGO officials who work with sex workers said the government had failed in providing alternative income sources for the women it had rounded up.
“The number of sex workers is increasing because of the global economic crisis,” Nut Nang said.
“We saw that many factories were closed and factory workers lost their jobs, and most of them didn’t go back to their hometown but instead turned to work in night clubs, karaoke parlours and other public places in order to earn money for their families.”
Just find out news about Miss Cambodia in France was interviewed by France 3. Solyanna is 21 years old. She lives in Mouvaux, France. She has just been elected as Miss Cambodia in France 2010. A competition organized by the Cambodian television Apsara in France.
She was born in France but as I heard in Interview, she can sing Khmer very well. I heard she came to Cambodia 4 times already. Maybe one day she will find a job here or maybe she would not like the heat?
Let’s check out for more information of her interview with France 3 (sorry it was in France but standstill to the end, you will hear a Cambodian song. Maybe it’s also your favorite song):
Sudbury – Thanks to Cambodian Threads, Christmas came twice last month for students in Cambodia.
Cambodian Threads, run by two 2004 graduates of Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School, donates a portion of the proceeds from sales of handmade silk scarves to disadvantaged schools in rural Cambodia where the colorful clothing is made.
Steve Patton handles the day-to-day operations managing inventory, shipping product and working with customers at his family’s home in Stow. Jacob Daniels, an English teacher in Cambodia, works with local artisans and schools.
Floating Village is as the name says , a floating village where people have houses built in the river. Houses floating like the river is the street and the boats the cars. Familys, father, and children pass by with their boat. They com home from work, school or they are going shopping in the mini supermarket. They have a floating “farm” with hens and pigs, a floating garden, floating school and floating church.. it is so surreal.
As the water height changes so does the people, they move with the water. People at the floating village are Cambodian, Vietnameese and people from Laos.
I went on a boat with two young boys. They work most of the day and the eldest started stuying maths after he started working. It costs 400 dollars a year to go to university, wich is alot for a local cambodian. Their lives are so different from ours, and so down to earth. They live where they work, exchange rise for pork, make theire own houses and try to make it their own. Its fascinating.
Arriving by fast boat/bus in PP around 3pm, I set out to find a guesthouse and a SIM card so I can get connected in Cambodia. The border crossing was not as easy as described in the LP.
At the Vietnamese border, we and our luggage had to leave the boat and get our luggage x-rayed. Then we went back to the boat and off to the Cambodian side. There, we could leave the luggage on the boat and get our passports stamped.
Then off to PP on the beautiful Mekong river. Though taking the bus from Saigon might be cheaper, if you have time, taking the boat is the thing to do.
As you might know I am from Kratie. I was born there, spent my childhood in Kratie for a very good memory.
I just back from there last December, I felt very happy to see the old places, my old school and the riverbank that we used to spend our evening there.
A lot of things changed but I feel as everybody it’s good to come back home sometime.
It’s a nice place to visit and stop by for one night before you want to move to any other places.
We have river, dolphin, good food … they also have several places for tourists to stay eat and drink with a reasonable price.
I hope next time I can write a good and useful guide to my hometown.
