About

I live in Phnom Penh. I started blogging about two years ago. The original idea is to have something new about Phnom Penh in real time. It has been a while that I want to write a book. It not yet happens … but somehow I managed to finish some short stories. Two of them have won the Nou Hach literature award for short stories.

I am not a writer. I finished my engineering school at ITC around 1999. I started working at Samsung Service Center for about one year, and then I moved to work at Phnom Penh International Airport since 2002. I like the terminal. I work there everyday. I saw people moving around, but for me I still remain in the terminal almost every day, every hour. I like this city, and I am proud to be a Cambodian who always loves to live and work in this country. I won’t go anywhere.

You might see my passion through the topic I posed. I read many books when I was young. My father always came back home with few books in his hands for me to read. My imagination might start from those books. I discovered later music and cinema when I moved to Phnom Penh. They both accompany me almost every moment, even reading lessons, doing home works or on the side walk. I believed it could also happen to everyone.

I spent two years in France for finished my last year of engineering school. I was in Paris. It was a very big city for me but there are a lot of things I like about Paris. Not to return there for living but I would like to come back one day, to be a few days tourist. I went to Lyon many times, just to see someone I loved since 7 years. She was there. She replied to my letters for the very first time since 7 years. Could you imagine how happy I was to read her first love letter? But my first love was suddenly died like a black rose. She said in her last letter: everything she has done to me was a mistake. She never loved me. And she added: you don’t have to understand. There are things in this world that you don’t have to understand.

I didn’t believe her at the beginning… but at the time I am typing this I do agree that there are things that you can’t choose. I started to think about writing. I wrote many things, some of them I posted on the internet, some of them I couldn’t finish, and they are still in my mind. If you want to read some of my writing, please come back later because I plan to put them back in my project LOOK AT KHMER, an online magazine.

I spend second year in Toulouse, a little small town where I start to know some good movies, especially the movies from Wong Kar-wai. I love all his movies, some of them I went to watch many times. I don’t remember how many times I went to watch IN THE MOOD OF LOVE, but believed me when I said it was more then 5 times. Each time I went to watch them, I understand more things and sometime they are completely different from one to other.

I believe a movie is like a mirror. The movie allows you to see yourself. Sometime you just can’t see what you really are, until one day you saw a movie. That’s how I get my intense to present some good movies I have seen.

Khmerbird.com is a personal note, a place where I registered everything who passed around me, mainly to myself alone without intention to generate any conclusion. It’s just a point of view in a circumstance of time.

The public place will be coming soon in a few months I afraid. The domain lookatkhmer.com have been purchased and reserved to be magazine online about cinemas, books, movies and some people who impacted into my life.

I hope you would wait for it,

In mean while, I welcome all of you to my personal stuffs here, I hope you will enjoy your visit and don’t forget to come from time to time, even just to say hi.

Warm regards,
Khmerbird
